The New York City chapter of the Institute for International Film Financing (IIFF) continues its popular monthly gatherings at the junction of film & finance with a special Film Financing Townhall at the renowned School of Visual Arts (SVA). Their facilities are conveniently located near the corner of 23rd Street & 3rd Avenue.

This grassroots community get-together is designed to foster & inform productive relationships between attendees. It provides unbiased insight & education about the business of film and film financing in particular. The event features a powerful roster of highly topical speakers from the filmmaking and financial industries. We are delighted to welcome real-world financiers among our guests!

The evening's five presentations plus panel discussion address key issues relevant to filmmakers, financiers and anyone interested in the economics, business mechanics, and financial dynamics of motion pictures. They are followed by Q&A time. Attendees also have ample opportunity to interact & network with our featured experts and amongst themselves.

Our Host

This month's Film Financing Townhall in New York is hosted by the esteemed School of Visual Arts (SVA), one of the nation's largest independent, regionally accredited art and film schools. Located in the heart of New York City, SVA is an established leader and innovator in the education of artists, offering graduate, undergraduate and continuing-education classes.

From its inception in 1947 as a trade school with three instructors and 35 students, SVA has grown into a dynamic, multidisciplinary institution with a faculty of more than 800 and a student body of almost 3,500. The School distinguishes itself by its extensive facilities, state-of-the-art equipment, unique program philosophies, and the size, breadth and professional standing of its faculty.

Very special thanks for making this event possible go to SVA's Film, Video and Animation Department and its Chairman, Reeves Lehmann. Department members are industry-renowned for turning ideas into cinematic works of art. The faculty even includes Oscar winners. Speaker Bios

Jim Jermanok

Speaker headshot 1 Jim Jermanok is an award-winning writer, director and producer of narrative and documentary feature films. He is also a former ICM Agent who represented Shirley MacLaine, Dudley Moore, Helen Hayes, Alan Arkin, Henry Winkler and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, among others. Mr. Jermanok wrote and produced the highly acclaimed romantic comedy "Passionada," which was released by Columbia TriStar in over 150 countries. He recently won the Grand Jury Prize at the Seattle International Film Festival for his film "Em," a compelling romantic drama about loss and love. The film went on to win the Criterion Collection's International Inspiration Award, the International Filmguide Award and the Best Producer Award at the recent Brooklyn International Film Festival. Mr. Jermanok is about to finish directing "Agganis," a feature documentary about Greek-American Harry Agganis, the legendary New England athlete of years past. »

Chris Bongirne

Speaker headshot 2 Chris Bongirne began his filmmaking career as a story editor with New Line Cinema while attending New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. He finished his schooling at the prestigious American Film Institute (AFI) in Los Angeles. Mr. Bongirne is currently the Production Supervisor of Madonna's directorial debut "W.E." and produced the recently released "Multiple Sarcasms" with Mira Sorvino and Timothy Hutton; "Blackout" with Jeffrey Wright and Zoe Saldana; "The Tenants" with Dylan McDermott and Snoop Dogg; and the ensemble drama "Ordinary Sinner" starring Elizabeth Banks. Major studio work includes a Production Supervisor role on "I Am Legend" and co-producing "In God's Hands" for Sony Pictures. His television work includes producing over 150 commercials and music videos for clients such as DeBeers, Microsoft and music artists as diverse as "The Ramones" and "Michael Jackson." Other long-form works are "In Search of Ernest Hemingway" and "Letters," both for Sony Television. »

Vlad Nikolic

Speaker headshot 3 Vlad Nikolic is an award-winning producer, director and editor of feature films and documentaries. He is also a faculty member at New York University (NYU) and The New School University, where he teaches Film Directing, Production and Digital Filmmaking. His feature film "Love" premiered at the 2005 Tribeca, Venice, and other film festivals, where he won a Best Director Award and critical acclaim. Mr. Nikolic's most recent work includes producing the feature "Here and There," which won the 2009 Best NY Narrative Award at Tribeca, and writing, directing and producing the feature "Zenith," which is fast becoming an online cult phenomenon. »

Marc Jacobson

Speaker headshot 4 Marc Jacobson has significant experience in the entertainment and internet industries. He currently advises many clients on the business and intellectual property issues that entertainment businesses face in the digital age. This includes matters relating to the creation, development and exploitation of intellectual property rights in internet-based content as well as film television, video, music and theatrical properties. Mr. Jacobson also advises companies on business and financing strategies in connection with such properties. As the former CFO and SVP of Public Policy for a major online service, he was a principal draftsman of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Mr. Jacobson is also the founding Chairman of the New York State Bar Association Section on Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of New York at Buffalo and followed it up by completing law school at the New York University School of Law. »

Eve Pomerance

Frank Coppola

The Institute for International Film Financing (IIFF) is an innovative, independent social-impact organization that endeavors to bridge the gap between the worlds of filmmaking and finance for the benefit of all stakeholders – including the public at large.

Founded by Thomas Trenker in 2003 and headquartered in San Francisco, IIFF has chapters in the Bay Area, New York City, New England, Florida, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, London, the Pacific Northwest, the Lower Midwest, the Southwest and the Great Lakes Region.
